Although authentic barefoot shoes have very thin soles (3 to 6 mm), for children aged 3 to 4, a slightly thicker sole, between 8 and 10 mm, can provide additional protection without compromising the natural development of the foot. This approach is in line with the recommendations of specialized children's footwear brands, which design soles between 4 and 8 mm to offer a balance between sensitivity, safety, and stability. In this age range, a thickness of 8–10 mm is ideal: it protects from uneven terrain and provides support, while maintaining the natural biomechanics of the foot and the feeling of freedom we seek with respectful footwear.
